Ride 3 / 2023 - Rapperswil to Egg

Image
During this third Pedersen ride of 2023, I met Ben in Rapperswil on a cloudy and cool Sunday afternoon. Perfect riding weather. We then rode a rural, hilly route, cruised around a small lake and then took a break at his home. It was there that he showed me his bike garage, his array of bikes and of course, his Pedersen collection.  Pedersen organization in the bike workshop.  Ben owns the rarest Pedersen I'd ever seen or ridden. It's a "Weygand" Pedersen from a small production run in the 1990s from Düsseldorf, Germany. The one Ben owns has the frame number "299" and unique frame details including: thicker-walled steel tubing, air pump holder and derailleur mount.   We then tried to ride up to the "Pfannenstiel" but unfortunately it was too steep. Instead we cruised down to Egg and enjoyed a coffee, to punctuate the day.  Text and photos by Philip Pfenninger, President, Pedersen Club Zürich

Pedersen Rider Portrait - Peter N.

May 9, 2023 Stallikon, Kanton Zürich I traveled by tram then bus to meet Peter, who lives on the other side of the Üetliberg in Stallikon of Kanton Zürich. We met via e-mail through the Pedesen Club Zürich newsletter. He wanted to give me two Pedersen bicycles that he and his wife no longer rode. I could hardly believe such news! I was looking forward to meeting him, conducting a short interview about his Pedersen experiences and then taking the two Pedersen bicycles home with me.  Peter bought his Pedersen in 1988 from Andreas Naegeli at the Velolaboratorium inn Zürich. Based on the serial number stamped in the frame ("CC 2154 C"), his Pedersen was made in 1987. Back then, Andreas Naegeli had a Pedersen at the Velolaboratorium that one could test ride. If the customer wanted to buy one, he would then special order the frame (in the correct size) directly from Jesper Sølling in his workshop in Christiana (Copenhagen, Denmark). This is exactly what Peter did. When the frame ar

Ride 1 / 2023 - Greifensee

Image
My first Pedersen ride in 2023. I rode from Zürich to Greifensee, alone. It was a cold and grey, Monday afternoon. The colors of the landscape and solitary riding were inspiring. I was wearing a waxed cotton jacket that froze into my riding position, the longer I rode upright into the wind. The ride was around three hours total. It’s great to be back in the hammock saddle again!  Text and photos by Philip Pfenninger, President, Pedersen Club Zürich

Ride 3 / 2022 - Along the Limmat River

Image
On Sunday, November 6, 2022, Ben, Daniel and I rode our three Sølling-made, Pedersen bicycles along the Limmat river. We started at the Zurich main station and rode all the way to Oetwil an der Limmat. The "Fisherweg" was our main path.  Our Sølling-made, Pedersen bicycles were built in three frame sizes: L, XL and XXL (left to right).  Text and photos by Philip Pfenninger, President, Pedersen Club Zürich
